Artificial intelligence has already changed the world and continues to impress us with how quickly it is evolving, creating both positive and negative possibilities in nearly every aspect of our lives. It is already a threat to the arts, as it can now create songs, and “AI artists” are beginning to appear on the charts. In an interview with Bloomberg TV, KISS co-founder, bassist, and singer Gene Simmons warned that the United States and the rest of the world should move quickly to create regulations for this technology and explained why this is necessary.

Gene Simmons explains why artificial intelligence is so dangerous for music

“A.I. is a concern if left unregulated. Anything — a beautiful horse that you just bring in, if it runs wild… You’ve got to have some parameters that we control instead of A.I. Right now, there’s a country and western star that’s got a number one record of sorts on some chart. (The artist) doesn’t actually exist.

“The major problem here, potentially, hypothetically and otherwise, is that if states have the right, and this has to be settled right away — the government must get a federal law that encompasses all of A.I. to get some sanity out of this. Because if you can do A.I. legally in Delaware, where you have all your companies so you pay less taxes… Why should they wanna do real music and real art in New York when they can just go to Delaware and do A.I.? No. You need a federal law that encompasses the entire country.”

“And I would highly recommend, and I would hope the entire planet really gets together. It’s an issue for the UN to get a world body to accept it, because it’s gonna happen to the same — same thing that happened to the unions in America. You charge too much here, so we’ll do business in China. No. You want to address the A.I. issue worldwide so we can control what the rules are, the comings and the going and what’s the income stream? Who owns the I.P.? Who’s the owner of the trademark?” Gene Simmons said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth).

Gene Simmons was recently honored at the Kennedy Center Honors alongside Paul Stanley, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley’s daughter, receiving the award for KISS’s contribution to American arts and music. Since Kiss retired from touring in 2023, Simmons has been performing with his solo band in festivals around the world.

Rafael Polcaro: I'm a Brazilian journalist who always loved Classic Rock and Heavy Metal music. That passion inspired me to create Rock and Roll Garage over 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, helping me through tough times and being a support to celebrate the good ones. When I became a journalist, I knew I wanted to write about my passions. After graduating in journalism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais, I pursued a postgraduate degree in digital communication at the same institution. The studies and experience in the field helped me improve the website and always bring the best of classic rock to the world! MTB: 0021377/MG
