Since the legendary Rush drummer and main lyricist Neil Peart passed away in 2020 at the age of 67, it was considered that the band was over because he was a really important part of their sound and compositions. However, the two original members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson reunited playing Rush songs in 2022 at the Taylor Hawkins’ tribute shows.
Now in an interview with The Washington Post, Lee said that they could go out and play again as Rush.
Geddy Lee says Rush could be active again
“It had been a taboo subject, and playing those songs again with a third person was the elephant in the room, and that kind of disappeared.”
“It was nice to know that if we decide to go out, Alex and I, whether we went out as part of a new thing, or whether we just wanted to go out and play Rush as Rush, we could do that now,” Geddy Lee said.
According to him who gave them the idea was The Beatle Paul McCartney who congratulated them for the performance at the Taylor Hawkins’ tribute show and said that they should go back to the road.
Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are childhood friends and formed Rush back in 1968 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Neil Peart would only join them in 1974, after their already had released their self-titled debut album. He replaced John Rutsey, who had to be out of the band due to health issues.
Geddy is currently on the road but promoting his new memoir called “My Effin’ Life”.
