Foo Fighters played their first 2025 concert, which was a surprise show announced only one day before, which happened last September 13 in a 900-capacity venue in San Luis Obispo, California. Besides being their first live performance in one year, it also marked the debut of Ilan Rubin, their new drummer.
Dave Grohl announced him at the show, saying: “Everybody else has said it. I finally get the opportunity to say, ladies and gentleman, will you please welcome, the most badass motherfucker, Ilan Rubin, is playing in the Foo Fighters. It’s official”.
Rubin was a member of Nine Inch Nails and curiously, Foo Fighters’ previous drummer Josh Freese, replaced him in NIN right after being fired.

The band’s most recent album is “But Here We Are”, released in 2023. One of the reasons why the Foo Fighters were inactive were due to Dave Grohl’s personal issues. He revealed last year he would become a father again but from an out of marriage relationship.
