Ex-Iron Maiden singer Paul Di’Anno is still waiting for knee surgery

Paul Di'Anno

The 63 year-old Paul Di’Anno, Iron Maiden vocalist from 1978 to 1981 is still waiting for a knee surgery according to Kastro Pergjoni, operations director of the Cart & Horses pub in Stratford, London, where the British group made their first concert in 1976. Pergjoni posted a recent photo of Di’Anno in his Facebook saying that it’s “getting worse the longer it goes.”

According to Blabbermouth, the musician had many health issues during the last years and underwent an operation in 2016 to remove a “rugby ball-sized abscess” on his lungs and required a knee-replacement operation on both knees after getting involved in several motorcycle accidents over the years.

The post about Paul Di’Anno said:

“Let’s all get together fans & friends of Di’Anno to support him in this long battle…this is his latest situation and is only getting worse the longer it goes. Let’s do it for our beast 🙏”

In an interview with The Metal Voice back in 2020, Di’Anno talked about his health, saying:

“I still got two knees to be done yet. I haven’t walked in four years, it’s ridiculous. They’ve got the cement in the right knee, left knee is coming up next. Unfortunately, my surgeon, he’s one of the best in the country, but it’s not like the hospital says, ‘Okay, you’re coming in for this operation at this date.’

“He’s the one who books you, not the hospital. He also takes care of a lot of our troops who come over with amputations and stuff like that. I’ve got to wait for him, and we’re hoping soon after New Year I’ll get the left knee done. Once that’s done, I’ll get up and learn to get up on crutches. That’s a start.”

Paul Di’Anno was Iron Maiden’s singer on their two first studio albums. “Iron Maiden” was released on April 14, 1980 the self-titled album had Paul Di’Anno (Vocals), Steve Harris (Bass), Dave Murray (Guitar), Dennis Stratton (Guitar) and Clive Burr (Drums).

“Killers” (1981), the second Iron Maiden album and the last without Paul Di’Anno who was fired due to weak stage performances because of problems with alcohol and drugs, had a new member of the group, the guitarist Adrian Smith who replaced Dennis Stratton
