Elton John finished his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in July 2023 in Stockholm, Sweden, and has faced several health issues in recent years, including vision loss caused by an eye infection. Although he retired from touring, the musician continued writing, recording and releasing new music. Now feeling much better, he is ready to perform a few more shows in places he didn’t have the chance to visit during his farewell tour.
The first show announced was at Rock in Rio in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, later this year, which will be his only performance in South America. Elton has now also announced two concerts in Mexico City at the iconic Estadio Azteca, as he was unable to visit the country during his farewell tour.
Elton John talks about his final shows in Mexico
“I am excited to announce that I will be performing two nights at Banorte Stadium on 2 and 3 October. Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart.”
“I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful. I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…,” he said.

Health issues
Elton revealed in 2024 that he was blind in his right eye and could not see anything. He has been recovering from an eye infection that caused temporary blindness. However, the recovery has been slow, and the vision in his left eye is still not good, so he said he cannot read or watch anything.
When accepting the Glenn Gould Prize in Toronto this week, Elton John took time during his speech to explain how he had to change his songwriting process because of this condition.
“I’ve had eye trouble recently and I always make records by looking at lyrics and writing to lyrics, and so I’m kind of fucked at the moment. What my eye has given me is a chance of, at 80 years of age, completely reversing how I write. I’m writing melodies first, and lyrics coming second. I’ve never done that. And I’ve just done it.”
“And I’ve just done an album, which is so different to anything I’ve ever done before, but it’s so happy. I’m so thrilled with it because it’s given me another chance to make music. If I don’t make music, I’m dead. If I don’t listen to music, I’m dead. Music is my soul, my driving force. It is everything and has been everything to me all my life,” he said. His farewell tour started back in 2018 and became during the last years the first one in history to achieve over $900,000,000 tickets sold.
