Deep Purple released “Lazy Sod”, the third single of their upcoming studio album “=1”, which will be released next July 19 via Ear Music. The band’s vocalist Ian Gillan talked about what influenced the song in an interview with Rocks magazine, saying: “Recently, a young journalist asked me how many songs I had written in my life. I replied that the last time my assistant counted, twenty years ago, it was over 500.”
Besides Gillan, Deep Purple’s current line-up has Ian Paice (Drums), Roger Glover (Drums), Don Airey (Keyboards) and Simon McBride (Guitar). To promote the album, which is produced by the iconic Bob Ezrin, Deep Purple has more than 60 tour dates scheduled already. It’s the band’s first album featuring the new guitarist Simon McBride.

Lyrics
“The world’s on fire
And I can’t get my arse out of bed
The world is on fire
There’s smoke all around my head
What was I thinking about when I crashed last night……
The oceans are rising
And I can’t do a thing about that
So it’s hardly surprising
I built an ark for me and my sleek black cat
What was I thinking about when I crashed last night……
Oh yes, turn off the gas and don’t forget to switch off the light
But that’s all right coz I’m a lazy sod and I’m hot
Don’t mind me coz I’m a lazy sod, you can like it or not
I’m guessing not
What was I thinking about when I crashed last night……
Oh yes, turn off the gas and don’t forget to switch off the light
That’s all right coz I’m a lazy sod and I’m hot, so hot
Don’t mind me coz I’m a lazy sod,
Whether you like it, like it or not
And I’m guessing not
Soooo what”
