The Megadeth leader, songwriter, guitarist and singer Dave Mustaine recently announced that the band would soon say goodbye to fans, trying to perform everywhere they could, and that their upcoming self-titled studio album would be their final one. Now, in an interview with Kerrang!, the musician said that he believes the farewell tour might last three to five years, so the thrash metal band is not going away that quickly.
Dave Mustaine says Megadeth’s farewell might last 3 to 5 years
“We’re easily talking about touring for another three to five years. And if we’re going to be doing it for that long, then, shit, I’ll be looking at the birthday I don’t even want to think about.”
“I’m not caught up in longevity and stuff like that, and being one of those guys who can play until he’s in his 80s. I have to remember that people live and they die. And I need to take good care of myself,” Dave Mustaine said.
The band is currently formed by Mustaine, Dirk Verbeuren (Drums), James LoMenzo (Bass) and Teemu Mäntysaari (Guitar). Megadeth is the second band of the Big 4 of Thrash Metal to do a farewell tour, since Slayer was the first in 2019, although the band reunited and is playing in festivals around the world right now.
The band recently released “I Don’t Care”, the second single of their upcoming self-titled album which will be out next January 26. The record will also include a new version of Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning,” a song for which Mustaine is credited as one of the writers, since it features ideas from the period when he was still part of the band, before being fired in 1983, shortly before they recorded their debut album.
