Faith No More was active from 1979 to 1998 and then from 2009 until 2016, when they entered a hiatus. Three years ago, the vocalist Mike Patton revealed that he was diagnosed with Agoraphobia, which is the fear of being in crowded places or leaving home. So he explained it was better for Faith No More to cancel the upcoming dates than having a nervous breakdown on the road with the group.

The Faith No More longtime keyboardist Roddy Bottum revealed in a newsletter on Substack in 2023, that the band is on a “semi permanent hiatus”. Although he didn’t give a direct reason for that, he described many other projects, which might be a reason why the band is not currently active.

But now, in an interview with Radio Futuro (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), the band‘s bassist Billy Gould said the group is in a “weird spot

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. And you don’t have to believe me, but there’s nothing… Right now we’re in a really weird spot, a really strange spot, and I can’t really tell you what’s going on. I don’t know myself. I get different information from people, and I’m in the band, so…”

“Uh, not really (I’m not the one who calls the shots in the band) If I did, probably we’d be playing in Chile next week. [Laughs]” Billy Gould said.

Roddy Bottum recently said Faith No More is on semi permanent hiatus

“Lemme introduce me but let’s also acknowledge us. Introductions can be awkward, I know, I’ll start. I’m Roddy. I’ve made a life for myself making music. With Faith No More and then Imperial Teen. I live in NYC and I work with my boyfriend in a band called MAN ON MAN and two awesome friends in a band called CRICKETS and also sometimes the horror art project gnarl core Nastie Band.”

“FNM is kind of on semi permanent hiatus and Imperial Teen is making a record slowly but definitely. I wrote an opera about Sasquatch a couple years ago but I can talk about all those projects later. I’m here in anticipation of a book I’ve written, it’s a memoir called The Royal We. It’s my first foray into writing and it’s exciting and scary and a whole new world for me..,” Roddy Bottum said.

Since then the band has been inactive but Patton already toured a lot with his other smaller projects like Mr. Bungle. So he started probably to overcome that issue with his side projects since the crowds wouldn’t be as big if he was performing with Faith No More.
