In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alice Cooper reminisced about the night she nearly died during a rehearsal for the tricks of her show. The test for the false hanging number was held at Wembley Stadium, London, England, in 1988.
The number of the hanging worked for years until finally passing near to end in tragedy.
Read what he said:
“Everything has its stress limit and after doing so many shows, I never thought about changing the wire. You know, I figured it’ll last forever. The wire snaps. I could hear the rope hit my chin and in an instant I flipped my head back.
“That must’ve been a fraction of a second because if it caught my chin it would have been a different result. It went over my neck and gave me a pretty good burn. I went down to the floor and pretty much blacked out.”
Despite the fright, Alice Cooper never thought of leaving the tricks out of her shows. “When I go to the circus and there’s a guy locked up with 12 tigers, there’s always a chance one of the tigers will not understand the message.” When you see a guy with a tight rope, he knows he can witness a tragedy in a second. I wanted this in my show: that what you’re seeing is the last night of Alice Cooper, ” he said.
