Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi said in an interview with Consequence of Sound that Rock music is not dead. The musician stated that there will always be space for “good music” and that he heard that rock will die during the last 50 years.

“I don’t think rock is going to die. That’s been said for years. I mean, how many times I’ve heard that statement over the past 50-odd years? It’s quite a lot, really. I think good music is not going to go. There’s always going to be a market for it. There are going to be an amount of bands that fall by the wayside — as there always is, there always will be.”
“But there are certain bands that are going to stick out and going to be there. You’ve got Metallica up there — they’re not going to go away. They’ve got a lot of fans and they’ve got a great fanbase. There are a lot of bands out there. No, the music is not going to go away.”
Why Black Sabbath sound is so unique
Black Sabbath is considered to be the band that created Heavy Metal with their first album recorded by Tony Iommi (Guitar), Ozzy Osbourne (Vocals), Geezer Butler (Bass) and Bill Ward (Drums). In an recent interview with Guitar World, guitarist Tony Iommi reflected on why Black Sabbath sound is so unique.
“Well, I wouldn’t know [laughs]. I think it’s one of those things where when you play as that unit, that’s what it is. If you ever hear Queen play, you can tell it’s Brian May playing the guitar – y’know, he’s got that sound. And different people have different things that make their sounds so unique.”
“It’s hard to copy that thing because it’s not just the way you play, it’s the vibrato, it’s the way your fingers move around the fretboard, it’s the energy you put into every note… It’s a whole range of things that makes that sound, and for me… Well, I don’t know how hard it would be to top. Because I can obviously do it – I can just plug in and get that Tony Iommi sound because I am Tony Iommi. So it’s hard to explain from another angle.”
